Microbial Nutrition

Peptones are protein hydrolysates that provide nitrogen and amino acids as an essential energy source to micro-organisms.

Tatua’s peptone portfolio includes a comprehensive range of dairy and non-GMO plant peptones.

Tatua is the world’s only peptone manufacturer with a fully integrated supply of dairy protein – with our casein and whey sourced directly from our New Zealand based milk supply. Our non-GMO plant protein materials and enzymes are sourced internationally.

We have strong R&D capability, and an openness towards collaborations to develop customised solutions to suit your microbial nutrition needs. Our tailored product development and microbiological applications laboratory can streamline the product qualification and quality assurance process.

Tatua’s FSSC22000-Q certification ensures the highest level of quality and documentation with the full peptone portfolio meeting Halal and Kosher requirements.

Dairy Peptones

Tatua has a range of dairy peptones sourced directly from our New Zealand-based, BSE/TSE-free milk supply.

Our casein peptones (Halal tryptones) have been developed to match the chemical, compositional, and physical specifications of the more traditional Pancreatic Digest of Casein (tryptone) products.

Our whey peptone (Enzymatic Digest of Lactalbumin) supports growth of fastidious bacteria and is often used in specific probiotic applications that require a particular Amino Acid profile.

Plant Peptones

At Tatua, we apply our enzyme and downstream processing technology to non-dairy protein substrates, to offer animal-free and/or allergen-free peptone solutions, as an alternative to traditional (animal-derived) peptones.

Tatua soy peptones are an integral component of some diagnostic media formulations (e.g. TSA and TSB), and are an established and proven performer in probiotic fermentation applications.

Tatua pea peptone was created to provide a solution where soy allergen (from soy peptone) may be a concern, and is suitable for probiotic applications.

Further plant-based protein sources are under review for potential future developments.
